Yorkshire terriers are known for their long, silky coats and often require extensive grooming to maintain an attractive appearance. If your dog is suffering from eye discharge accumulating and hardening on the hair around his eyes, you will need to remove the discharge daily. While some amount of eye discharge is considered normal, Yorkies can suffer from eye problems. You should discuss your dog's eye discharge with your veterinarian to see if you can find a more permanent solution to the problem.

Step 1

Dip your washcloth in warm water and gently wipe eye discharge away from your dog's eyes. Be careful not to apply pressure to the eye or irritate the eye in any way.

Step 2

Thoroughly moisten the hardened hair. Gently massage the hair with your fingertips to break up the strands. Do not pull on the hair. Add more water if necessary. Remove as much of the discharge as possible by simply rinsing the area and wiping it with your washcloth.

Step 3

Use a stainless steel comb to gently brush out the hair until it is no longer stiff, tangled or stuck together.
